Best Hair Masks for Damaged Hair
One of the most significant components of your appearance is your hair. Hair that is strong and healthy can make you feel more confident and appealing. Damaged hair, on the other hand, can cause frizz, breakage, and volume loss. These are all indicators that your hair requires some attention. Using a hair mask is one method to give it that care.
Hair masks are deep-conditioning treatments that are applied to the hair and kept on for 5-20 minutes before being washed off. Hair masks have been increasingly popular in recent years as a technique to hydrate dry or damaged strands without weighing them down or leaving your scalp greasy. Before you use these items, here are some things you should know about them!
All of these masks do an amazing job when it comes to conditioning, detangling, softening, and adding shine to the hair so instead of just repeating those benefits over and over I thought we could focus on the key differences between the ingredient highlights and the formulation because most of these masks do claim to work for all hair types but I personally feel that the ingredients and the formulation can really dictate how well a mask is actually going to work for your hair type and your hair needs so hopefully by the end of this blog you will be able to figure out the perfect mask for you for preventing future damage that actually really works well with your hair type.
1. Olaplex No 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask:
This mask has 3.3 fluid ounces of product in it and it retails for 28 dollars. I have split up the ingredients into two major categories conditioning & replenishing and strengthening & protecting ingredients. For conditioning and replenishing ingredients, there are a lot of plant-based oils like avocado seed oil, meadowfoam seed oil, Rice bran oil, jojoba esters, hemp seed oil, squalene, sunflower seed oil, rosehip extract, hyaluronic acid, sodium PCA, ceramides, and panthenol. For strengthening and protecting ingredients this has bis-aminopropyl, arginine, glycine, alanine, serine, valine, isoleucine, proline, threonine, and histidine.
The formulation of this mask is definitely very unique it looks like a lotion at first but it's very very dense and concentrated. It smells kind of bright and fruity. This mask works for many different hair types and needs but it's going to work the best if you have incredibly porous hair because of all of those great ingredients in it.
2. Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Restructuring Bond Repair Masque:
This mask retails for 45 dollars and it has 5.7 ounces of product in it. some of the conditioning and replenishing ingredients that stand out to me in this mask are castor oil, sunflower seed oil, amodimethicone which is a really great silicone for the hair, and panthenol. When it comes to ingredients that are great for damaged hair there are a couple of different things which are Alterna's signature caviar bond enforcing technology this is something that is supposed to help to seal split ends to help to prevent the hair from future breakage. This mask also has a variety of antioxidants in it which will also help to protect the hair from future damage so it has vitamins A, C, and E.
The formulation of this one is very thick and buttery. It smells very fresh and florally. This mask will be great for those of you that want something thicker that is also protein free so if you have a lot of other protein-based ingredients in your other hair care products or maybe you're someone that has hair that is really susceptible to protein build-up but you still want something that's deeply conditioning and helps to protect the hair this is a great option for you. This may not be for you if you have very fine hair or if you have very little density because of how thick it is it may just weigh down the hair but it just really depends on what you like in a mask. In general, masks like this are going to work better for those that have normal to coarse strands.
3. Ouai Thick Hair Treatment Masque:
This one retails for 38 dollars and has 8 ounces of product in it. The conditioning ingredients in this are plant-based butter and oils like shea butter and sweet almond oil, macadamia oil, castor oil, olive oil, macadamia seed oil, Adansonia digitata seed extract, shorea seed butter, and vitamin E and C. For strengthening and protecting ingredients it has two different forms of proteins, hydrolyzed keratin and hydrolyzed pea protein. This formulation is also very very thick and creamy. it's actually lighter weight almost more whipped versus that one being a little bit denser and butterier. It smells like heaven; it is a very potent smell. This mask is best for those that have porous hair or are in need of products that have added proteins. It may not work the best for you if you have fine or very thin hair but they do have that fine to normal hair formulation.
4. Kerastase Blond Absolu Cica Extreme Masque:
This mask retails for 50.77 dollars and has 6.8 ounces of product. The conditioning and replenishing ingredients are amodimethocone, sunflower seed oil, and edelweiss-in-oil that's going to nourish the hair. The protective ingredient in this is hyaluronic acid which encourages the hair to retain the essential amounts of lipids and proteins and other conditioning ingredients which is very important when it comes to keeping properly healthy balanced hair. This formulation is the lightest weight so far out of all of these. it's kind of a gel-like cream. it smells beautiful like a bright citrusy smell. So, another great option for those of you that want a mask that's protein-free and is definitely better suited for those that have very fine thin hair. If you have thick very dense coarse hair it may not be conditioning enough for what you need.
5. Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair Deep Conditioning Mask:
This mask retails for 38 dollars and has 8 ounces of product. The conditioning and replenishing ingredients contain a lot of great oils like avocado oil, sweet almond oil, rosehip oil, argan oil, panthenol, ginseng, and algae. This mask strengthens and protects the hair through the use of proteins like hydrolyzed corn protein, hydrolyzed wheat protein, and hydrolyzed soy protein and this has b vitamins in it like biotin to help with hair damage. This formulation is the lightest weight and most liquid out of all these. it's much more like a true lotion also smells great. It has kind of a fruity smell. This is a great option for those of you that have fine to thin hair and really don't like something that's super thick and heavy but because it has added proteins if you have porous hair and you're in need of those extra proteins then this would be the one for you. Instead, if you're not in need of extra proteins or if you do have coarse thick dense hair this is probably not going to be conditioning enough for you but it's going to work great for some.
6. Bumble and Bumble BB While You Sleep Damage Repair Masque:
This mask retails for 33.16 and has 6.4 ounces of product in it. Some of the conditioning and replenishing ingredients in this include castor oil, evening primrose oil, pomegranate seed oil, tea seed oil, and panthenol. This mask strengthens through the use of plant-based proteins as well so it has hydrolyzed wheat and vegetable protein. This formulation is a little bit thicker and not quite buttery. It has a little bit more of a subtle scent. It's kind of fruity and floral perfectly blended. This mask is called an overnight damage repair mask and they talk about leaving it on dry hair once or twice a week you can definitely do that or you could just use this as a pre-shampoo mask and leave it in for 20 to 30 minutes. If you were hoping for something with added proteins then this will be the one for you.
I really hope that this helped you guys to figure out the perfect deep conditioning mask for you to protect your hair against future damage.
