Makeup Removers Which Are the Best and Which Are the Worst?

You just spent a lot of time getting ready for the day. You have your makeup on, but now it's time to clean up. What are you going to use to take off your makeup? There are many options out there, but not all of them are created equal. Some are good for preventing breakouts, while others help keep skin hydrated. Some remove makeup better than others, while some do nothing at all! This can make choosing the best one difficult.

makeup removers

Here’s a bunch of different cleansing oils and cleansing balms, all these makeup removers to melt down your makeup:

CLEANSING BALMS:

1. Farmacy - Green Clean:

This cleansing balm and makeup remover is one of my favorites, if not for the holy grail status of cleansing balms and makeup removers. It effortlessly melts away your makeup without leaving your skin oily or irritated. It simply performs the job so well, and it rinses and washes away beautifully. It doesn't leave a filmy residue on your skin, and it usually performs the job so well that I don't feel the need to use a second cleanser to remove the residue.

So, this is the product that I've been recommending, especially for oily combination or acne-prone skin, since many individuals with acne-prone or oily skin are afraid to use oil-based products, but the Farmacy green clean balm hasn't exacerbated or worsened acne for a lot of acne-prone skins.

But a lot of you guys have been raising the environmental concern about the polyethylene being present in the formula and I think that's when I started researching more about polyethylene being in the formula because it's not exactly in a microplastic or a physical form it's actually dissolved into the water. It's not in solid form.

So Farmacy indicates that it easily dissolves into the water. But upon my research. I really couldn't find any conclusive data or more research on this kind of waxed out or liquified polyethylene environmental impact, but I do agree with a lot of you guys saying that if you can find a polyethylene free formula, I think that would be a better choice for the environment for sure.

Some of the cleansing balms that I am going to review today do contain polyethylene and I'm so sure that a lot of companies are trying to reformulate and move away from using polyethylene.

2. Physician’s Formula - The Perfect Matcha 3-in-1 Melting Cleansing Balm:

This product is actually a perfect dupe and a substitute for Farmacy balm. It was only $10.49. The moment I tried it, it just instantly reminded every aspect of what is so enjoyable about the Farmacy balm. The ingredient list or the main esters and the PH and also even using the polyethylene I guess is almost identical to The Farmacy green clean.

So, if someone is on a budget this is definitely a really solid choice to go for. The makeup removal process was fairly straightforward and super easy It does have that fluffy sorbet type of cleansing balm texture that just melts away upon application like once you rub it in. You don't really need to put too much pressure to melt the product. So, it was just perfect. I really have nothing bad to say about this product other than the fact that the fragrance can be a little bit too overpowering. Overall, a pretty solid and very affordable cleansing balm.

3. Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm:

This product is also a dupe for Farmacy balm. It was only $24.99. It might actually be better than the Farmacy green clean. The ingredients have some type of active botanicals, hot springs water, vitamin E, and vitamin C for a healthy complexion. It has a very soft wax-like texture but it kind of feels like a super super thick vaseline. It has a mild fruity smell. This one is polyethylene-free. It smoothly dissolves your makeup without leaving your skin oily or irritated, and it removes almost all of your makeup without leaving a trace.

I was quite worried about experiencing burning or discomfort when I applied this to my eyes to remove eye make-up. Surprisingly, I had no reaction. I used this balm on my eyes to remove my mascara and eyeliner, and it worked quite well.

For people who use makeup every day for work, this balm is perfect for them. It is for all skin types and for people who have sensitive and acne-prone skin it works really great. You will not have any breakouts after using this. So, definitely check this one if you wear heavy makeup.

4. Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm:

This is also another fairly affordable cleansing balm from Versed. It's called Day Dissolve Cleansing balm. This is another very familiar and very similar product to the cleansing balms that I just talked to you guys about. It has that very lightweight fluffy sorbet texture that just melts right away. It does not leave any greasy residue or filminess.

The only problem and a major problem that I have with this product is the eucalyptus oil and the cloverleaf oil and other essential oils that are inside here and that's the only reason why it's stopping me from using this because it just irritates my eyes so badly, like I needed to cry so much to get the product out of my eyes. So, it's not the most sensitive skin-friendly, but the reason I wanted to spotlight this product is that it's one of the best for removing heavy, waterproof makeup out of all the cleansing oils and cleansing balms. To be honest, if you wear layers of foundation or like to use glitter eyeshadows or like waterproof mascaras, this will take care of it very efficiently and easily, although it does contain polyethylene. I was nearly taken aback by how efficiently and rapidly it dissolves and cleanses everything. So certainly, have a look at this. If you wear a lot of makeup.

5. Clinique - Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm:

This is probably the most unproblematic or the most neutral like the Switzerland of the entire cleansing balm nation. This is really a no-frills formula that doesn't contain any fragrance essential oils, unnecessary other fluffy ingredients. It just gets straight to the point. It's a bit thicker than the Farmacy green balm, as well as the other cleaning balms I mentioned before.

However, this does not imply that it is excessively oily. It genuinely emulsifies brilliantly and removes almost all of your makeup without leaving any traces behind. This product contains polyethylene as well, but only if you have really sensitive skin. One of the few cleansing bombs that won't irritate your skin is this one.

6. Then I Met You - Living Cleansing Balm:

This is most likely one of the most Instagram-worthy product. It's such a lovely product, and this is probably my second or third tuck because I adore this cleansing balm so much, and I initially thought it was OK. Farmacy is a little thicker than this. It's possible that I won't like it. It has the potential to jolt me awake. It does contain sea buckthorn oil as one of the key components, and I've never had a really positive experience with sea buckthorn oil. But this, in fact, didn't clog my pores or didn't aggravate my acne or it did really well with my oily combo skin, especially during the wintertime nothing feels more luxurious than this product. I absolutely enjoy this.

This product is actually polyethylene free However, it is not essential oils free, but it never irritated my eye area. I in fact had no sensitivity issue using this product. With this cleansing balm, it does take a little bit more time to dissolve your waterproof mascara or waterproof eyeliner.

So, if you do wear heavier makeup, there are better cleansing oils and cleansing balms out there but if you just wear everyday natural minimal makeup, this is a perfect nourishing, like a very very nourishing cleansing balm for you.

7. The Inkey List - Oat Cleansing Balm:

This product, unfortunately, did not work out and this is probably one of the most disappointing products of The Inkey List. I love The Inkey List. I love oat and I just love the price point. I love Mark and Colette, who are the founders of the brand the masterminds. I respect them so much, but I have to give them the critical feedback that they have to do something with the packaging because at first It was supposed to be really thick like a vaseline-like paste. But then when I was trying to use it recently it just melted into oil.

So, it was leaking it just squirted out a bunch of oils. So, there are separation issues It was really really thick and greasy. It's like you're slathering on vaseline all over the skin. This is one of the makeup removers that you really need a micro cloth or a damp cloth to remove and wipe away the cleansing oil. In conclusion, I love the intention of this product. I don't like the outfit of this product.

8. The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser:

This is another product that did let me down and I was so sad because I really tried my best to love this product and some people pointed out that I'm using this ordinary squalene cleanser wrong and I’ve been trying it again and again with a different type of method by warming it for like minutes and then I gave up, it did not remove my makeup. I was tugging my skin more than removing makeup It was irritating my skin at the end because I was putting too much physical pressure and friction on my skin.

So, I'm still very confused about this product I think this will be a very brilliant gentle morning cleanser. If you do have really really dry, like eczema-prone dry skin. I think this is a fabulous cream-based cleanser. On my skin, It didn't work out. I love the ingredients. It's polyethylene free and also, I love squalene So if any skin-care product has squalene as one of the main ingredients, it works really well with my skin. But this product was just a little bit too hard to work with. So, this is a pass.

CLEANSING OILS:

1. Hanskin - Pore Cleansing Oil [PHA]:

So typically, I prefer cleansing balms for traveling. You don't really need to worry about it leaking or messing up your travel bag which happened numerous times with cleansing oils but on a night-to-night basis. It's actually more convenient for a lazy girl just to pump out some cleansing oils on your hand and just go at it.

This cleansing oil contains PHA, an exfoliating agent, but you don't have to worry about it exfoliating your skin too much because it only has 10 ppm, which is a very little quantity in the overall formula. Among all the cleaning balms and oils, this one effectively removed all traces of makeup in a very short amount of time.

It's super lightweight it is going to be fabulous for oily combination and acne-prone skin. It does leave your skin supple and hydrated. It doesn't leave any residue whatsoever. It did have a lot of red flags in the beginning just because it does contain a bunch of different essential oils and for the first week that I have used this, it stung my eyes so badly, I just didn't know what to do I just thought I would completely give this product up. But on the following week, this product did not sting my eyes anymore. I don't know what has changed. Maybe the volatility of the essential oils has just evaporated into the air but my skin has been really really enjoying this.

2. Tatcha - Pure One Step Camellia Oil Cleanser:

I know a lot of you guys do love this, too but for some reason, my skin and this product just never got along. And among all the makeup removers that I talked about to you guys today, this actually has clean ingredients. The ingredient list is fairly short. It doesn't contain PEG, which seems to be another controversial ingredient to a lot of you guys but you guys don't have to worry about the PEG content in skincare products, but that's something that you want to avoid This is another option. That is PEG-free. It's stung my eyes really badly It still stings my eyes and it doesn't really remove or break down makeup that well, I know this product is really hyped up, but I’m not really sure why.

3. SIORIS - Fresh Moment Cleansing Oil:

Now, this product is something that I highly anticipated from this brand and I love the brand founder. He has this ultimate growth mindset and he's really appreciative of any feedback I just love how he always infuses and incorporates and reformulates and just makes sure that the brand is also improving which is really really important for any brand founders out there. This product contains 27 safflower seed oil which is a brilliant lightweight linoleic acid. Rich oil That's perfect for oily acne-prone skin. Hence, the reason why this product is very very lightweight.

This product is also essential oils free, fragrance-free, polyethylene-free, and what else, it's also PEG-free so it does tick off the box for every single possible clean beauty standard and I was really excited to try this until I realized my eyes were getting so irritated by something inside this cleansing oil. Maybe perhaps the vitamin E. I'm not really sure at this point. I'm just thinking my eyes are just wrong. I just wish and hoped that it didn't sting my eyes and perhaps the makeup removing power like the cleansing power would be a little bit more intense because this definitely is not the strongest makeup remover. It's definite that you need a second to cleanse.

That was it. I hope you guys found this blog informative and helpful. If it was, don't forget to share this with your friends. That really does mean a lot to me.
